What is Kefir
Kefir, fermented milk with Caucaus and Tibet origin, is produced from grains that comprise a specific and complex mixture of bacteria and yeasts that live in a symbiotic association with a protein complex called a kefir grain. Beyond its inherent high nutritional value as a source of proteins and calcium, kefir has a long tradition of being regarded as good for health in countries where it is a staple in the diet.
Reports have shown that dietary probiotics such as kefir have great potential for:
- cancer prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer, malignant T lymphocytes, breast cancer and lung carcinoma
- cholesterol metabolism
- angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition
- tumor suppression
- increased speed of wound healing
- modulation of the immune system
- alleviation of asthma
